Coxarthrosis of the hip joint is called a degenerative-dystrophic disease, characterized by destruction of the cartilaginous tissue, deformation of the articular surfaces of bones, formation osteophytes. The disease is more common in elderly people and leads to impaired motor activity of the joints.

Classification of the disease
Specialists distinguish two forms of coxarthrosis development:
- Idiopathic (primary)- an independent disease, the development of which is due to a genetic predisposition, occurs in 25% of all cases of coxarthrosis.
- Secondary- develops as a complication of other diseases of the hip joint (osteomyelitis, congenital dislocation, hip fracture or pelvic bones, dysplasia, Peters's disease, aseptic necrosis).
There is also a classification of the disease depending on the cause that caused its development. According to this classification, the following forms of the disease are distinguished:
- Involutionary- develops mainly in the elderly due to age-related changes in cartilaginous tissues.
- Dysplastic- the occurrence of the disease is associated with congenital pathologies of bone tissue.
- Post-traumaticis the result of an injury to the bones entering the joint.
- Dyshormonaldevelops against the background of a long-term use of corticosteroid drugs, under the influence of which degenerative-dystrophic processes occur in the tissues of the joint.
- Postinfectious- coxarthrosis occurs after the transferred infectious diseases affecting hip joint tissues (arthritis, including rheumatoid, osteomyelitis).
- Developing with Peters's Disease- one of the manifestations of this congenital disease is the osteochondropathy of the head of the femur.
- Idiopathic- the cause of the development of the disease can not be detected.
Drawing up a plan for the comprehensive treatment of coxarthrosis of the hip joint directly depends on the cause that caused the development of the disease.
Main clinical manifestations of the disease
The first manifestation of coxarthrosis is the appearance of pain in the joint area, the intensity of which increases as the disease develops.Restriction of joint mobility depends on the degree of development of the disease and varies from insignificant to complete immobility.
Manifestation of pain at different stages of the disease:
- at the first degree of the disease the pain arising in the joint has a periodic character, it is localized almost always in the region of the joint, appears after prolonged physical exertion (running or walking) and passes after rest, limited mobility of the joint is insignificant or absent;
- the second degree is characterized by an increase in the intensity of pain, its appearance during periods of rest, irradiation into the thigh or groin area, after a prolonged physical exertion, a gait change appears;
- in the third stage of the disease, the pain becomes constant, can appear at night, appears a significant limitation of motor activity in the joint and a change in gait due to shortening of the patient extremities.
If the pain in the hip joint begins to bother in adolescence this may be a symptom of developing Peters disease (manifested in boys at the age of 14-16), epiphysis of the head of the femur (in girls it appears in 12-13 years, in boys - in 13-15).
Therapeutic exercises with coxarthrosis
In complex therapy with deforming arthrosis of the hip joint, therapeutic gymnastics is mandatory.
In order for it to be as effective as possible, it is necessary to adhere to the following rules for its implementation:
- the performance of the exercises of the medical complex requires maximum smoothness and slow movement;
- The rhythm of exercise should be dynamic, not static;
- the whole complex should take at least an hour to perform it better than 10-15 minutes with little breaks between them;
- Do not exercise exercises that cause pain or cause it to increase;
- after doing gymnastics, you can take a bath with warm water to relax and relieve pain in the muscles;
- on the recommendation of a doctor you can visit the pool 1-2 times a week.
Which complex of exercises to choose at the first stage osteoarthrosis of the hip joint
At the first degree of the disease, you can perform a simple set of exercises, but do not forget that before starting the session, you need to consult a doctor.
From the supine position:
- Bend the right leg in the knee and slowly straighten it, repeat with the left leg.
- Hands pull up to the stomach knee bent in the knee, the second is right on the floor, legs change.
- To bend both legs in a lap, to press a foot to a floor, to lift a basin above a floor, so it is high as much as possible, to lower and relax.
From the prone position on the abdomen:
- Right leg bend at the right angle, try to lift it above the floor, lower and relax, change legs.
- Just stretch out and lie for 3-5 minutes.
From sitting on a chair:
- Straighten your back, press your feet to the floor, connect your knees, turn your heels out as far as possible, then return to the starting position.
- Clamp between the knees a small diameter ball and make them circular movements.
Therapeutic gymnastics at the II stage of the disease
In the second stage of the disease almost all the recommended exercises are performed from the supine position:
- Legs extend, inhale inhale, and lower them when exhaled.
- Arms bend and unbend at the elbow joints 5-8 times.
- The arms are extended along the body, the knee joints rotate inwards.
- Hands on the waist, feet tightly press the heels to the floor and plant them in the sides.
- For 3 to 15 seconds, perform a bicycle.
Complex of exercises for stage III disease
This set of exercises is also performed from the supine position, in the third stage of the disease it is necessary to make movements gently and smoothly preventing the occurrence of pain.
The first few times you need to do exercises under the supervision of a doctor:
- Hands stretch along the trunk, raise the head and shoulders above the floor and fix this position for a few seconds, slowly sink and rest a little.
- Hands put on the hips or waist, legs slowly lift from the floor to the maximum possible height.
- Tighten the pelvic muscles and fix this position for a few seconds.
- Turn on a healthy side, gently lift the aching leg above the floor to the maximum possible height and slowly lower it.
Yoga with coxarthrosis
The purpose of exercises from yoga with coxarthrosis is to remove puffiness, restore normal functioning of the joints, and improve their mobility.Their use allows you to drive the joint fluid and increase blood circulation.
You should prescribe yoga with coxarthrosis after all the examinations (ultrasound, MRI, laboratory tests).
Features of the selection of exercises
With coxarthrosis, exercises from the so-called "reasonable" yoga, in which only the hatha-yoga remains several major asanas, the rest of the exercises have acquired a slowness and smoothness, which allows not to overload patients joints. In total, a complex of "reasonable" yoga includes about 30 exercises, the performance of which can take from one to two hours.
Massage as a method of additional treatment of the disease
After a mandatory consultation with a specialist supplement the treatment of coxarthrosis can massage, which can be done by a professional masseur or yourself.
Rules for self-massage
Before the self-massage course begins, you need to learn its basic techniques, in order not to aggravate the situation by improper performance:
- rubbing and stroking with self-massage should not cause pain and leave bruises and abrasions;
- The fingers and hands should be relaxed during the massage;
- effleurage can be done in the area of the thigh and sacrum (you can not do this in the kidney area);
- the duration of a self-massage session is about 10 minutes, only 10 procedures are performed every other day.
Massage and the degree of development of the disease
At the first and second degrees of development of coxarthrosis, massage is prescribed after a course of drugs that relieve inflammation and eliminate pain syndrome. The third degree is often treated with surgical methods, so massage can be prescribed only when full recovery of the patient comes after surgical intervention.
Additional therapies for osteoarthritis of the hip joint
For the treatment of coxarthrosis of the hip joint, the following additional treatment methods can be used:
- Hardware traction - stretching the patient's limb with a special apparatus.
- Hirudotherapy - treatment with leeches. It is possible to conduct such therapy better in specialized clinics that ensure sterility of the material and individuality.
- Postisometric relaxation - manipulation involves alternating the muscle tension during their withdrawal and relaxation with stretching.
Correct performance of exercises of medical gymnastics with coxarthrosis will help to get a positive result faster from the therapy. However, one can not independently select a set of exercises and perform them without consulting a doctor.
