Tablets and syrup Flavamed: instructions for use

Flavamed is a drug that is prescribed for cough with hard-to-separate sputum. The drug acts in two ways: dilutes the mucus and creates conditions for its rapid evacuation from the respiratory tract.

The main active substance of the drug is ambroxol. It stimulates the function of the secretory glands of bronchial epithelium, accelerates the production of biologically active substances that lining the inner surface of the alveoli. The substance dilutes sputum and increases it in volume, stabilizes the chemical composition of the exudate in accordance with physiological norms.

By activating special enzymes, ambroxol reduces the viscosity of mucus. Stimulates the work of cilia of ciliated epithelium.

Pharmacological effect

The drug belongs to the group of drugs with mucolytic action. The main active substance is ambroxol, refers to substituted benzylamines, an active metabolite of bromhexine. The structure of ambroxol as an active substance contains a hydroxyl group, while the methyl group is absent, in contrast to bromhexine.

The administration of the drug Flavamed is aimed at stimulating sputum discharge, provided there is a moist cough. The mechanism of action is mainly associated with an increase in the activity of ciliated epithelium and wave-like contractions of respiratory bronchioles, while characterized by a slight increase in the secretion of bronchial glands and a decrease in the viscosity of sputum, due to an increase in the proportion of the serous component in secretion bronchi. Due to the effect on the separately located in the single-layer ciliate epithelium bronchioles, Clara cells and alveolocytes, the drug stimulates the effect on the surfactant system. Ambroxol has the ability to increase the permeability of the vascular barrier of the broncho-pulmonary system. So the drug has mucolytic and secretory effects.

After taking the drug, its active substance is almost completely adsorbed. The maximum concentration is achieved in 1-3 hours. After the first pass through the human liver, the bioavailability of ambroxol when administered orally decreases by one-third. The active substance of the preparation is 85% capable of binding to plasma proteins. Ambroxol is able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, through the placenta and, accordingly, into the breast milk, so this should be taken into account when prescribing for pregnant women, and for women in the period lactation.

Metabolites Ambroxol formed in the liver, are excreted by the kidneys about 90%. The remaining 10% is displayed unchanged. When an overdose of the drug, hemodialysis and forced diuresis are ineffective due to a high degree binding to blood plasma proteins of the drug, and also because the drug slowly passes from tissues to blood.

When taking the drug during severe violations of the kidneys, it is possible to accumulate its metabolites. In cases of severe liver disease, the rate of clearance of the body from the drug is reduced by 20-40%.

With combined use of ambroxol and antitussive drugs that suppress the cough reflex, due to the weakening of the cough reflex, there can be a danger of congestion in the bronchi.

Reviews

We offer you to read reviews of people who used Flavamed:

  1. Lydia. Three years in the morning there was a raw cough, like that of smokers, (I never smoked). What I did not drink from the drugs and what I did not use: the photon and the heating and grinding did not help anything. But Flavamed (pills) helped. Until now, I do not know what a cough is.
  2. Arseny. I started taking Flavamed tablets when I realized that the cough was caused not just by a cold, but by a serious illness. I did not want to go to the doctor, so I bought them at the nearest pharmacy. It turned out that I'm allergic to one of the components of the composition, so the pills made the complication. I will not take any more money that I have assigned myself.
  3. Alina. Very worthy cough remedy. It is not surprising, because the active substance ambroksol. Always very carefully check the composition of the medicine. To me the preparation very well helps or assists, if a cough dry and difficultly leaves a sputum. Literally a couple of days (a day or two) and there comes a relief. Also I continue to take, when the cough became "wet the secret is secreted quickly. I recommend unequivocally. The undoubted advantage is that "Flavamed" is released in the form of syrup, which is convenient for treating bronchitis in children. I gave the child - I liked it. The syrup has a pleasant taste and smell.
