Pharmacological effect

Being a broad-spectrum antimicrobial drug, Furamag is active against Gram-positive cocci, Gram-negative rods, protozoa and many other microorganisms.

Resistance to the action of Furamag develops slowly and usually does not reach a high degree. In comparison with other nitrofurans, Furamag shows great activity in relation to Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus spp. The action of the drug is due to the suppression of the respiratory chain, as well as the inhibition of other biochemical processes of microorganisms, which leads to the destruction of their cytoplasmic membrane or shell.

This mechanism allows to improve the overall condition of the patient, because as a result of exposure to nitrofurans microorganisms produce significantly less toxins. Also, Furamag, unlike many other antimicrobial drugs, not only does not depress the body's immune system, it also contributes to its activation, which is manifested in an increase in the ability of leukocytes to phagocytose microorganisms and the complement titer. Also, Furamag, like other drugs from the group of nitrofurans, when used in therapeutic dosages stimulate leukopoiesis.
