pharmachologic effect
Suprax Solutab is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic whose mechanism is due to the suppression of the synthesis of the cell membrane of the microorganism. Cefixime is resistant to beta-lactamases, produced by the majority of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
In studies outside the living organism (in vitro), cefixime exhibited activity against the following microorganisms:
- Gram-positive bacteria: Streptococcus agalactiae;
- Gram-negative bacteria: Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Providencia spp., Shigella spp., Citrobacter diversus, Citrobacter amalonaticus, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella spp., Serratia marcescens.
In clinical practice and in vitro studies, cefixime exhibited activity against the following microorganisms:
- Gram-positive bacteria: Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae;
- Gram-negative bacteria: Moraxella (Branhamella) catarrhalis, Proteus mirabilis, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Escherichia coli.
The drug is resistant to: Enterococcus (Streptococcus) serogroup D, Enterobacter spp., Clostridium spp., Pseudomonas spp., Bacteroides fragilis and most Staphylococcus spp. (including methicillin-resistant strains).

This means that capsules can not be taken by children, even if they are 12 years old, but their body weight is less than 50 kg.
Supraks tablets are allowed for use in children with a body weight of at least 25 kg. This means that, regardless of the age of the child, if its weight is 25 kg or more, it can be given Supraks Solutab in the form of dispersible tablets.
Supraks suspension can be used for children from the age of 6 months. This dosage form is optimal for children under 12 years of age. Therefore, doctors recommend giving the drug to children in the form of a suspension, preferring it to tablets and capsules.
Children under 6 months of age should be given Supraks in the form of a suspension only under the supervision of a doctor if there is no way to replace this antibiotic with another safer for the baby.
Intended use for pregnancy and lactation
In pregnancy, Suprax can be used only if the intended benefit for a woman exceeds all possible risks to the fetus. In practice, antibiotics of the cephalosporin group are often prescribed to pregnant women, as compared to other antibacterial drugs, they are relatively safe.
Suprax is contraindicated in breastfeeding. Therefore, if a nursing woman needs to take the drug, then during the treatment should wean the baby from the breast and transfer to artificial feeding. One day after receiving the last dose of Suprax, you can again return to breastfeeding the baby.

- uncomplicated infections of the lower and upper urinary tract in men: 7-14 days;
- uncomplicated infections of the lower / upper urinary tract in women: from 3 to 7-14 days.
In cases of presence of violations of renal function, the dose is determined by the creatinine clearance:
- 21-60 ml / min or patients on hemodialysis: a 25% reduction in the daily dose (it is recommended to use other dosage forms);
- ≤ 20 ml / min or patients on peritoneal dialysis: a 2-fold reduction in the daily dose.
Side effect
The frequency of adverse reactions on a special scale (very often more than 10%, often more than 1%, but less than 10%, infrequently - more than 0.1%, but less than 1%, rarely - more 0.01%, but less than 0.1%; extremely rarely - less than 0.01%; with an uncertain frequency - it is impossible to estimate the frequency of side effects based on available data):
- from the digestive system: often - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, digestive disorders, abdominal pain; very rarely - pseudomembranous colitis;
- from the respiratory system: with an uncertain frequency - dyspnea;
- from the hepatobiliary system: rarely - increased bilirubin in the blood, increased activity of hepatic transaminases and alkaline phosphatase; very rarely - hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice;
- from the hemopoietic system: very rarely - thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, pancytopenia, transient leukopenia, agranulocytosis; with an uncertain frequency - hemolytic anemia, blood clotting disorders;
- from the urinary system: very rarely - a small increase in urea and creatinine in the blood, hematuria; with an uncertain frequency - the development of an acute form of renal failure with concomitant tubulointerstitial nephritis;

Overdose
Most often occurs with an increase in the daily dose, the frequency and intensity of side effects increase. Treatment is symptomatic, gastric lavage, prescribe antihistamines and glucocorticoids.
special instructions
Before starting treatment, read the special instructions:
- During treatment, a positive direct Coombs reaction and a false positive urine reaction to glucose are possible.
- With prolonged use, there may be a violation of normal intestinal microflora, which can lead to the growth of Clostridium difficile and cause the development of severe diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis.
- In patients with a history of allergic reactions to penicillins, there may be manifestations of hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
- Caution should be used in elderly patients, patients with chronic renal failure or pseudomembranous colitis (in the anamnesis), in children under 6 months of age.
Interaction with other drugs
When prescribing the drug, it is necessary to take into account interactions with other drugs:
- Possible bleeding when taking with anticoagulants at the same time.
- With simultaneous use with normotimics in plasma, the content of carbamazepine increases.
- Urikozuricheskie means inhibit the removal of the active substance in the urine, which can lead to increased adverse reactions.
- When used simultaneously with polypeptide antibiotics, aminoglycosides, diuretics in large doses, monitoring of the kidneys is necessary.
Reviews
We offer you to read reviews of people who used Suprax solute:
- Olga. My husband had cystitis, Supraks was appointed, he quickly put it on his feet. A fairly powerful drug, but you must be careful when applying and follow the doctor's instructions.
- Elena. The brother picked up a strong otitis. The district doctor appointed Supraks. I went to the pharmacy, I bought two packages. We took strictly according to the instructions, followed all the recommendations of the doctor. A couple of days later, his brother felt better, and a week later he was already in an absolutely normal state, even he could go to work. I will all advise this antibiotic. Works well and no side effects.
- Anna. My daughter was prescribed suprax from cystitis, did not help, eventually they said later to drink monoal, though once, but still he costs five cents. In general, I do not understand why doctors prescribe antibiotics from themselves, without any analysis. Everywhere, after all, it is written that the analysis of the flora for sensitivity must first be made.
Analogues
The modern pharmaceutical market offers a wide choice of cephalosporin antibiotics. For some patients, Suprax is not suitable because of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, so you have to look for an alternative.
The most widely used analogues are listed below:
- Ceforal Solutab;
- Cefix;
- Azithromycin;
- Panzef;
- Cemidexor;
- Sumamed;
- Ixim Lupine.
Before buying an analogue, consult your doctor.
Supraks or Sumamed - which is better?
Active substance Sumameda - azithromycin, belonging to the subclass of azalides. Azalides are fundamentally different in structure from cephalosporins and macrolides. The main difference of Sumamed is the bacteriostatic type of effect. In other words, Sumamed does not destroy pathogenic bacteria, but only stops the processes of their growth and development in the human body. However, Sumamed has a prolonged action and is able to maintain therapeutic concentrations up to 5-7 days, which will allow it to be prescribed in short courses.
Both drugs have a wide range of microorganisms sensitive to them. However, the results for determining the susceptibility of the isolated pathogens for each specific infection should be taken into account.
