Pharmacological action and group
The active substance of the drug is hydrocortisone acetate- has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and antiallergic effect. It has a direct effect on cellular infiltrates, reducing the migration rate of leukocytes and lymphocytes to the area of inflammation. As a result, cell, subcellular membranes are stabilized, membranes of mast cells are restored, the binding of immunoglobulins to receptors on the cell surface decreases, the synthesis processes are inhibited cytokines.Hydrocortisone acetate reduces the severity of early immune response, has an antimetabolic effect, prevents scarring.
Hydrocortisone acetate slows the migration of lymphocytes and leukocytes to the area of inflammation.
In intraocular fluid through the eye socket hydrocortisone ointment penetrates poorly - it only gets into the epithelium of the mucosa and epidermis, in small amounts can be absorbed into the systemic bloodstream. The active substance is metabolized in the epithelium of the mucosa, the epidermis, then its small amount that enters the systemic bloodstream is metabolized in the liver cells. In the blood, hydrocortisone acetate binds to albumins and transcoritin.
Indications and contraindications

- dermatitis of the eyelids;
- inflammatory processes in the anterior parts of the eye (the main condition for successful treatment is the absence of damage to the corneal epithelium);

Overdoses of hydrocortisone ophthalmic ointment are extremely rare. In this case, there is an increase in local side effects.
The use of the drug for more than two weeks leads to active absorption of the main acting substance into the bloodstream, reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive, oral hypoglycemic formulas, insulin, anticoagulants.Also characteristic for long-term treatment is a decrease in the concentration of praziquantel, salicylates.When combined with cardiac glycosides, digitalis intoxication develops, and with silver preparations - mutual inactivation.
Hydrocortisone ointment in ophthalmology is used to treat inflammatory eye diseases. Absorption of the active substance into the bloodstream is minimal, but it is not recommended to use the drug for longer than two weeks.
