If you are regularly concerned about abdominal pain that does not bring relief but only progresses, do not self-medicate. Regular pain in the abdomen can indicate a serious ailment - inflammation of the abdominal cavity.
There are several types of disease, one of them is viral peritonitis. What symptoms are observed during the disease and how to diagnose the disease, we consider in our article.
Causes of
As a rule, the cause of viral peritonitis is an infectious or viral pathogen that affects the abdominal cavity. This disease quickly progresses, since the abdominal cavity is not able to fight the inflammation on its own. In viral peritonitis, the body begins to intensively produce toxins that poison the human body.
Often the cause of the disease is perforation or ablation of the abdominal cavity. Also, the causative agent can enter the peritoneum if intestinal integrity is impaired, a phenomenon often encountered with inflammation of the appendix.
If the patient has an intestinal obstruction, in 90% of cases this is what causes the disease. Fecal masses accumulate, as a result of which some organs, including the peritoneum, are squeezed.
The causative agent of the disease can be streptococcus or staphylococcus, usually their appearance provokes E. coli. It should be noted that the viral type of peritonitis in humans is quite rare.
A large list of pathogens can cause the development of the disease
Symptoms of the disease
First of all, the patient complains of characteristic pains in the abdomen. It is difficult for a patient to specify the place of localization, since pain sensations are observed throughout the abdominal region. In the early stages of the ailment the pain passes, after which it returns again. If we are talking about a neglected form of the disease, the patient is constantly tormented by acute pain.
The viral type is characterized by nausea, which goes into a profuse vomiting. At the beginning of the development of peritonitis, vomit contains only the contents of the stomach, in more complex cases, vomiting occurs with bile and even with calves.
In addition to the main symptoms, in viral peritonitis, the following manifestations are observed:
- skin pale;
- weakness of the body;
- drowsiness;
- lowering of blood pressure;
- loss of appetite;
- cold sweat;
- bloating;
- elevated body temperature.
Pain is the main symptom of the pathology
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of the viral type of peritonitis consists of the following manipulations:
- First of all, the physician makes a clinical picture: what symptoms disturb the patient and how long, whether surgical intervention or serious medication has been done, whether there are chronic gastrointestinaltract. Further the expert conducts a palpation of a stomach to define a place of localization of pains.
- Measurement of blood pressure. As a rule, in the presence of an inflammatory process in the abdominal cavity, blood pressure is significantly reduced.
- Complete blood count. Elevated levels of ESR in the blood indicate the presence of inflammation.
- ultrasound. Ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity is necessary for visual inspection of the organ.
- Radiography. Conducted to the entire abdominal area to determine the cause of the disease.
- Laparocenesis. In more advanced cases this manipulation is necessary. The abdominal wall is pierced in order to get the peritoneal fluid.
Treatment of
If you suspect a disease, you should contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible. In the event of sudden unbearable pain, urgently call an ambulance. While waiting, the patient should not be allowed to eat, drink, or take painkillers. The patient should lie in a comfortable position and wait for an ambulance.
Patients are hospitalized by the medical team
It should be noted that the treatment must be carried out exclusively in a hospital. If the patient has previously taken medications or used other methods of treatment, it may significantly complicate the diagnosis, it will be extremely difficult to establish a specific diagnosis.
Basically, the treatment of peritonitis involves surgical intervention. Under the influence of general anesthesia, the specialist removes the infectious focus, disinfects the cavity and, if necessary, installs drains. The next stage is drug treatment, which consists in the use of antibiotics.
The success of treatment depends primarily on the severity of the disease. To avoid the neglected form of peritonitis and even death, every person should know the symptoms of this disease. At the slightest suspicion of ailment, in no case do self-medication.
