Lercamen is a drug that blocks the slow calcium channels.

This drug is used in the therapy of diseases of the cardiovascular system. The persistent hypotensive effect of the drug lasts 24 hours, that is, it should be taken once a day in the morning. Lercamen does not affect the level of glucose and the total cholesterol in the blood.

The main active ingredient of the drug, lercanidipine, is a substance from the group of Ca2 + antagonists, which is characterized by its ability to inhibit the transmembrane rush of calcium into the smooth muscle musculature. As a result, the lumen of the vessels gradually widens, in the shortest possible time reducing the overall peripheral resistance of the vessels, which prevents the development of tachycardia and hypertension, that is, a persistent increase in blood pressure.

The use of Lercamen in pregnancy and during breastfeeding, as well as in women of childbearing age in the absence of reliable contraception is contraindicated.

Pre-clinical studies showed no teratogenic effect of lercanidipine in rats and rabbits, and the reproductive function of rats was unchanged.

In view of the lack of clinical experience with lercanidipine during pregnancy and during breastfeeding, and since it is known that other dihydropyridine derivatives were teratogenic effect in animals, lercanidipine is not recommended for use in pregnancy and in women of childbearing age who do not use reliable methods of contraception.

Due to the high lipophilicity of lercanidipine, it can be assumed that it penetrates into breast milk, so the drug is not recommended for use during breastfeeding

  1. Care should be taken when using Lercamen in patients with mild and moderate renal and hepatic insufficiency.
  2. In case of renal insufficiency (CC less than 30 ml / min) and liver failure of a severe degree of fatigue, the use of Lercamen is contraindicated.
  3. In renal failure (QC more than 30 ml / min) or liver failure of mild to moderate severity, the initial dose is 10 mg, then with caution increase the dose to 20 mg / day. Antihypertensive effect can be increased in patients with mild or moderate hepatic insufficiency and dose correction may be required.
