Sulfadimethoxin

Sulfadimethoxin is a chemical analogue of paraaminobenzoic acid, a substance vital to bacteria and some protozoa (toxoplasm) for the synthesis of its DNA.

Sulfadimethoxin is absorbed by bacteria, disrupts the formation of nucleic acids, as a result, the cell of the pathogen can not reproduce and function normally.

The drug is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms: streptococci, staphylococci, protea, E. coli, Klebsiella, Shigella and Salmonella, cholera vibrio, gonococcus, toxoplasm, causative agent of trachoma.

Composition of 1 tablet:

  • active substance: sulfadimethoxin - 0.2 or 0.5 g;
  • auxiliary components (0.2 / 0.5 g of active ingredient): aerosil (colloidal silicon dioxide) - 0.000 44 / 0.001 1 g; potato starch grade "Extra" - 0.016 92 / 0.042 3 g; calcium stearate - 0.002 2 / 0.005 5 g; medical gelatin - 0.000 44 / 0.001 1 g.

pharmachologic effect

The drug is effective against bacterial infections. The mechanism of its action is the inhibition of the enzyme glucose-6-dehydrogenase, responsible for the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid (a variety of folic). It is necessary for bacteria to produce purines and pyrimidines, which are part of the DNA of the cell. The active substance of the drug stops the reproduction, and does not kill the encapsulated bacteria, which are at rest in the body, does not cause resistance.

The active ingredient is an analog of para-aminobenzoic acid, it breaks the metabolism of bacteria and produces enzymes of phosphatases. Sulfadimethoxin inhibits the multiplication of gram-positive staphylococci, streptococci, gram-negative intestinal sticks, Friedlander sticks, Klebsiella, pneumococci, causative agents of dysentery and other shigellosis infections. The drug depresses the growth of chlamydia, weakly affects the proteas.

The drug is found in the blood half an hour after intake, reaches a maximum concentration after 8-12 hours, poorly penetrates through the blood-brain barrier, therefore is ineffective against meningitis (caused by meningococcus) and inflammatory processes of the brain. The active substance of the composition soon after absorption in the gastrointestinal tract is found in the joint and peritoneal fluid, pleural effusion, exudate of the middle ear. Metabolism of the component occurs in the liver, it is excreted in the urine and bile.

Indications for use

  • erysipelas,
  • pyoderma,
  • trachoma,
  • angina,
  • otitis,
  • sinusitis,

  • deficiency of folic acid.

Intended use for pregnancy and lactation

Sulfadimethoxin is highly undesirable for use in pregnancy and during breastfeeding, as it penetrates well through the placenta and into breast milk, and can cause a child to have dyspepsia, liver and kidney damage, nuclear jaundice or hemolytic anemia.

Dosage and route of administration

As indicated in the instructions for use before starting the test, it is necessary to check the sensitivity to this medicine of pathogenic microflora. The use of sulfadimethoxin in the absence of sensitivity does not make sense, since the harm caused by the active substance to the body exceeds the benefit of fighting with pathogenic bacteria.

  • Adults on the first day are prescribed a dose of 1000 mg, then - 500 mg per day. In the case of a severe course of infection, it is possible to increase the starting dose to 2 mg, and daily - up to 1 mg. Take the medicine once a day, after eating. Duration of treatment is 7-10 days.

Reviews

We offer you to familiarize yourself with the opinions of people who used the drug Sulfadimethoxin:

  1. Lilya. An excellent product, quickly puts on its feet. We forgot about him, but in vain. The husband only escapes them from any colds and inflammations. And recently my mother, 75, was cured of otitis for 3 days by sulfadimethoxin. I advise everyone.
  2. Olga. I have chronic bronchitis with an asthmatic component, very long time doctors did not prescribe antibiotics, namely sulfadimethoxin + euphyllin = the effect is very good and inexpensive. But very individual, especially with heart failure.
  3. Sasha. Sulfadimethoxin in tablets, a couple of years ago, helped me a lot during a flu or cold. I drank these pills constantly, as I started to get sick, three tablets at a time on the first day, the next day 2 tablets and for 3 days 1 tablet, but I had enough and one day to feel good. Now, though I will drink a pack of these pills and no result. Maybe it's my body accustomed to them, or the pharmacists began to make a poor-quality medicine.

Reviews of doctors about the drug confirm the effectiveness of the drug in the fight against coccal infection internal organs and skin, if fully consistent with the conservative course of treatment. Otherwise, pathogenic microorganisms develop resistance to a whole group of drugs, since all sulfonamides have a typical chemical structure.
