Eye drops Azarga: pharmacology, indications and contraindications

click fraud protection

Azarg's eye drops are prescribed with increased intraocular pressure, which is caused by intraocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma, in cases when therapy with drugs with one active ingredient did not bring the right effect. The drug is combined and has a complex effect on the visual system, increased intraocular pressure is reduced by reducing the production of intraocular fluid. More about the indications, contraindications to treatment with drops of Azarg, possible side effects, overdose and use with other drugs - further.

Description of the preparation

Azarga - a combined drug, is used to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.It reduces the increased intraocular pressure and reduces the production of intraocular fluid.

Azarga drops are used in the treatment of glaucoma

The main effect of eye drops of Azarga is a decrease in the production of intraocular fluid and, accordingly, a decrease in intraocular pressure.

In 1 ml of the drug contains 10 mg of brinzolamide, 5 mg of timolol maleate, benzalkonium chloride (50%), sodium hydroxide, disodium edetate, tyloxapol, mannitol, purified water.Form release - eye drops, the volume of the bottle with a dropper (type Drop Tainer, a material of low density polyethylene) is 5 ml. The color of the suspension is white.

Pharmacological action and group

Brinzolamide is an inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II.As a result of this component, the formation of bicarbonate ions slows down with a decrease transport of liquid and sodium, resulting in the production of intraocular fluid within the ciliary body eyes.The main therapeutic effect is the decrease in intraocular pressure (IOP).

Increased intraocular pressure

Brinzolamide, the main active substance of Azarga, is an inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II.

Another active component of eye drops is Timolol.It is a non-selective beta-adrenoreceptor blocker, sympathomimetic activity is not pronounced. Depressive effect on the myocardium does not appear, there is no semis-stabilizing activity.With topical application of Azarga drops due to the reduction of the formation of watery moisture, as well as a slight increase in its outflow, the intraocular pressure is reduced.

Based on timolol, they produce such drugs as Kosopt, Trusopt and Arutimol.

Trusopt is an analog of drops of Azarg

Combined action of timolol and brinzolamide promotes the enhancement of the action of each substance separately.

With topical use, the components of Brinzolamide and Timolol penetrate the systemic circulation. Adsorption of brinzolamide occurs as a result of selective binding (mainly with carbonic anhydrase II) in erythrocytes. The maximum concentration (Stach) of Brinzolamide is about 1, pM. The metabolism of brinzolamide is due to N-dealkylation, as well as O-dealkylation, oxidation of the N-propyl side chain.The main metabolite in this case is N-desethyl Brinzolamide, together with Brinzolamide it can also bind to carbonic anhydrase I and accumulate in erythrocytes.A significant part of the substance (about 60%) is excreted by the kidneys, and 20% - in the form of metabolites.

Indications and contraindications

Indications for treatment with the drug - the need to reduce increased intraocular pressure in adults with open-angle glaucoma, as well as intraocular hypertension in those cases when monotherapy does not sufficiently reduce IOP.

Contraindications:

  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • bronchial asthma, severe chronic obstruction of the lungs;
  • sinus bradycardia, atrioventricular blockade of the second or third degree, heart failure, cardiogenic shock;
  • allergic rhinitis, hyperreactivity of the bronchi;
  • increased sensitivity to beta-blockers;
  • hyperchloremic acidosis;
  • kidney failure;
  • hypersensitivity to sulfonamides.

In childhood, eye drops of Azarga are not used. In the period of pregnancy, treatment with them is allowed only in cases of extreme necessity. The effect of the drug on the composition of breast milk is unknown.

Possible complications

The most frequent side effect that occurs when the drug is treated is blurred vision.There are also abnormalities on the part of the gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system, kidneys, changes in metabolic reactions.

To avoid adverse reactions, use the drug strictly as directed by your doctor and do not exceed the dosage.

conclusions

Azarg's eye drops are prescribed in ophthalmology with increased intraocular pressure caused by intraocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. The drug shows particularly high effectiveness in those cases when therapy with monopreparations did not give the desired effect. Children do not prescribe the drug, during pregnancy it can be used only in case of emergency.
