Hay fever ( pollinosis ) is an allergic disease observed in humans, with increased sensitivity to certain types of pollen flowers. Now the allergy in children and adults is very common for pollen of plants and trees, including domestic ones.
Today we will talk about the symptoms and treatment of hay fever - pollinosis - in a child and an adult with medical preparations, medicines, folk remedies at home.
CONTENTS
Pollinosis, hay fever: symptoms
The clinical picture consists mainly of combinations:
- conjunctivitis,
- rhinitis,
- asthmatic type dyspnea( not always).
Sick notes:
- burning sensation and foreign body sensation in the eyelid area,
- photophobia,
- lacrimation,
- redness of the conjunctiva,
- sneezing.
First all the phenomena are not clearly expressed, then, after three or four days, the phenomena of conjunctivitis sharply increase, the eyelids swell. Dense mucus begins to form out of the conjunctival sac, stitching and cutting pains appear in the eyes. Most eyes are affected, but the degree of their defeat can be different.
The mucous membrane of the nose is sharply hyperemic, it gives off an abundant watery secret, the patient complains of nose pain, constant sneezing attacks, which increase when leaving the street or opening the window. The disease lasts throughout the plant's flowering season, causing allergies in the patient.
Mucous trachea and bronchi may gradually be involved. The voice becomes hoarse, in the evenings there are often attacks of suffocation( such as bronchial asthma). The patient's state of health deteriorates sharply, there is weakness, insomnia, a feeling of heat in the body, cold extremities. The temperature is usually normal, but sometimes, at the peak of an attack, it can reach 39 degrees.
Hay fever, pollinosis: treatment
General recommendations:
During flowering plants, a patient suffering from hay fever, it is advisable for some time to change his residence. Sometimes, perhaps in a few years, the disease can go away spontaneously, but this should not be counted on.
Treatment usually begins with the detection of an allergen by skin tests.
After the detection of pollin, desensitization is carried out. It is carried out by subcutaneous injection of pollen extracts: they begin with large dilutions giving a weakly positive reaction, then gradually, with each injection, increase the concentration.
Some doctors use for treatment of Calcium chloride intravenously, Ephedrine, Atropine.
In recent years, antihistamines( diphenhydramine and others) have been used to treat hay fever, as well as ACTH and corticosteroids as the most effective remedy.
In hay fever apply the application of Hydrocortisone emulsion directly on the nasal mucosa.
Drugs for the treatment of pollinosis
In the treatment of pollinosis and hay fever, two main complementary therapies are used:
Pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy of during an exacerbation, which usually involves the use of antihistamines:
- Tavegil,
- Clemastin,
- Dramanin,
- Claretin.
As well as topical glucocorticosteroids:
- Pregnenolone,
- Progesterone,
- Cortisone,
- Prednikarbat.
Allergen is a specific immunotherapy for , a causally significant allergen that occurs outside the period of exacerbation.
For the treatment of hay fever use:
- antihistamines,
- anti-inflammatory,
- vasoconstrictive drugs.
Histamine and histamine-like substances are nitrogen compounds that, along with others, are released from certain cells during an attack of hay fever and cause allergy symptoms.
Antihistamines
As the name implies, drugs block the action of histamine and thereby facilitate the manifestation of allergies. At present antihistamines of the first and second generation are used.
The first includes, for example, Diphenhydramine( Dimedrol). These drugs are effective against many symptoms of hay fever, but have a variety of side effects, including inhibition and drowsiness( sedation), dizziness, intestinal disorders. Therefore, the second generation of antihistamines such as Loratadine( Claritin) are now more often prescribed, which last longer, do not have sedative properties and, as a rule, lack the main drawbacks of the first generation drugs( however, some of them can affect the heart rhythm).
Anti-inflammatory drugs
Used topically to suppress inflammatory reactions in the nasal mucosa and associated symptoms. Use both corticosteroids and non-steroid preparations( for example, sodium cromoglycate, also available under the name cromolyn sodium).
Vasodilating agents
By inducing a reduction in the musculature of the walls of the blood vessels, reduce the swelling of the mucous membranes and eliminate the obstruction of the upper respiratory tract. These include, for example, Phenylephrine and Oxymetazoline, which are administered in the form of tablets or aerosols.
Prolonged( for a week or more) use of aerosols sold without a prescription usually leads to increased inflammation and swelling of the mucous membrane and obstruction of nasal breathing - drug-induced rhinitis develops.
Vasoconstrictors have various side effects and when ingested can cause nervousness, irritability, insomnia, elevated blood pressure and, especially in older men, bladder dysfunction. Similar problems often arise with the use of different aerosols, even in cases where they initially brought relief.
Specific immunotherapy with allergens
Is the most promising method of treating allergies. For this, more and more concentrated allergen solutions are injected into the patient's skin for several weeks. Such a gradual introduction causes the body to produce something like an antidote.
Carry out a specific immunotherapy in advance, so that at the beginning of flowering the sensitivity of the organism to a specific pollen becomes minimal.
This method is contraindicated with the slightest signs of exacerbation. In addition, such treatment requires patience: in order to achieve lasting results, it is usually necessary to spend at least three years.
Therefore, the most common now treatment of allergies is medication. Currently, there are many anti-allergic drugs that differ in the time of action and the number of side effects.
Folk remedies, prescriptions at home from allergies
With hay fever and other allergic diseases in folk medicine, herbs containing azulene are used. Azulen is a dense liquid of blue color, which has an anti-allergic effect and is rich in carotene. Such herbs include:
Chamomile Pharmacy - infusion of chamomile is used for allergic diseases, such as bronchial asthma, rheumatism, eczema, urticaria. From the infusion of chamomile, make baths, lotions, chamomile poultices: 2-3 tablespoons of flowers are brewed with steep boiling water and stir until a mushy mass forms, which in a hot form is put on a clean cloth and applied to the affected areas.
The tripartite sequence - infusions and decoctions from the string - a common means for washing with scrofula. It is part of the anti-acid tea, the so-called averin. To prepare it, take equal parts of the string and three-color violet, and also one second part of nightshade bitter( 1: 1: 0.5).Ingredients make and drink as tea. With eczema, scrofula, exudative diathesis, urticaria, the baths of the turn are prepared as follows: infusion of 10 g of herbs pour into the bath and add 100 g of sea or salt. The water temperature is 37-38 degrees, the procedure lasts 15 minutes. St. John's wort also has an anti-allergic effect. Infusion from it( 1 dessert spoonful for 300 g of water) is taken orally for rheumatic joint damage, 50 g 2-3 times a day( depending on the child's age). For external use of affected by rheumatism joints are using hibernating oil. Prepare butter as follows: 500 g of fresh St. John's wort flowers with leaves, insist in 1 liter of sunflower oil and 500 g of white wine for three days, then the wine is evaporated. Gauze napkins, moistened with hunter's oil, are applied to the diseased joints.
Yarrow common - has an anti-allergic effect, accelerates the healing of wounds, increases blood coagulability, does not allow the development of blood clots. Decoction of yarrow leaves helps with scrofula and rheumatism. Infusion apply externally with eczema: pour a tablespoon of dry herbs with a glass of boiling water and bring to a boil. Insist 1 hour, strain.
Devyasil high - facilitates skin itching with neurodermatitis and urticaria. Cook the broth from the roots and rhizomes in a ratio of 1:10 with water, boil 10 minutes and take a tablespoon three times a day.
Licorice naked - also has anti-allergic activity. From it, the preparation was isolated glycyram, proposed for the treatment of bronchial asthma, eczema, allergic dermatitis. Licorice, or licorice, is prepared in autumn or early spring. Sometimes the roots are cleaned from the bark before drying. With bronchial asthma, allergic bronchitis licorice elixir, use as an expectorant for 20 drops 3-4 times a day. You can use a decoction of 15 g of licorice root to a glass of water and take a tablespoon 3-4 times a day.
Honeycomb honeycomb has antiallergic effect. They need to be chewed for 50 minutes 4-5 times a day.
To prevent the emergence of allergic diseases, folk medicine advises to take dessert three times a day for 1 tablespoon of honey( preferably honeycomb honey). Before going to bed, you also need to take 1 tablespoon of honey per 100 grams of boiled water.
There is a modification of treatment with honey allergic patients: the patient is given a mixture of two teaspoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar per 100 grams of boiled water in the morning and overnight.
Such treatment continues until the main symptoms of the disease disappear.
After this, the mixture should be taken once a day, plus one time chewing on the cell caps for 10 minutes.
Methods of traditional medicine in the treatment of hay fever are the same as in the treatment of bronchial asthma.

What is allergic rhinitis( rhinitis) - hay fever: causes, treatment
An overview of the disease of allergic rhinitis or runny nose, also known as hay fever in a video lecture from a doctor.
Allergic rhinitis is an allergic inflammation of the nasal mucosa, resulting from "repeated" contact with the antigen.
Symptoms of an allergic rhinitis are plentiful discharge from the nose( in the most colorless or yellow color), difficulty in nasal breathing, itching in the nose, sneezing, coughing.
Occurs due to an allergic reaction of the "immediate" type. First comes the primary contact with the antigen to which the B cell( lymphocyte) reacts, transmitting information to the plasma cell for the production of antibodies and their subsequent transmission to the mast cells. At repeated contact - with the antigens-allergens the mast cell already contacts, releasing at the same time histamine, which is the "instigator" of the allergic reaction.
To handle this problem it is necessary to the doctor - an allergist, if this is not available - to the ENT, therapist, pediatrician in any clinic or medical center.
Diagnosis will require a blood test for allergens and an immunogram.
