Pharmacological effect
When ingested, atorvastatin initiates the conversion of coenzyme A to mevalonic acid. As a precursor to cholesterol, it contributes to the inclusion of cholesterol from the liver in the structure of very low density lipoproteins.
Subsequently, transportation to the blood plasma and interaction of very low density lipoproteins with low-density lipoprotein receptors occurs. As a result, the former are transformed into the latter. From plasma there is a movement in the peripheral tissues of the human body and splitting and the redistribution of cholesterol with a tendency to subsequent withdrawal of it from the body and, as a consequence, a decrease its level.
The effect of therapeutic practice in an overwhelming number of patients manifests itself 14 days after the start of the course of treatment. The maximum effect is observed in 24 - 28 days after the start of the course of treatment.
Indications for use
As indicated in the instructions to Atisis, this drug is intended for the treatment of hyperlipidemia - diseases and conditions characterized by an elevated level of lipids in the blood, namely:

Also, Atoris, according to the instructions, is prescribed for cardiovascular diseases:
- For the secondary prevention of cardiovascular complications in patients with ischemic heart disease in order to reduce the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction, the total mortality rate, the need for revascularization and re-hospitalization in connection with angina pectoris;
- For primary prevention of cardiovascular complications in patients without signs of ischemic heart disease, but with two or more risk factors for its development, such as genetic predisposition, diabetes, age over 55, hypertension, nicotine dependence, low level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol density.
Contraindications
Atoris can not be used for individual intolerance of the active or auxiliary substances of the medicine, liver diseases in stages of exacerbation (with chronic hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis), liver failure, liver cirrhosis of various origin, with increased activity of hepatic transaminases, skeletal muscle diseases, with lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, syndrome malabsorption.

Instructions for use
The instructions for use indicate that prior to the use of Atoris, the patient should be transferred to a diet that reduces the concentration of lipids in the blood, which must be observed during therapy drug. Before starting therapy, you should try to achieve control of hypercholesterolemia with exercise and weight loss in obese patients, as well as therapy for the underlying disease.
The drug is taken orally, regardless of food intake.
Atoris can be taken once at any time of the day, but at the same time every day. Therapeutic effect is observed after 2 weeks of treatment, and the maximum effect develops after 4 weeks. Therefore, the dose should not be changed earlier than 4 weeks after the start of the drug in the previous dose.
- Treatment begins with the recommended initial dose of 10 mg. The dose of the drug varies from 10 mg to 80 mg 1 time / day and is selected taking into account the initial concentration of LDL-C, the purpose of therapy and individual therapeutic effect. At the beginning of therapy and / or during a dose increase, it is necessary to monitor the concentration of lipids in the blood plasma every 2-4 weeks and adjust the dose accordingly.
Primary (heterozygous hereditary and polygenic) hypercholesterolemia (type IIa) and mixed hyperlipidemia (type IIb):
Treatment begins with the recommended initial dose, which is increased after 4 weeks, depending on the patient's response. The maximum daily dose is 80 mg.
Homozygous hereditary hypercholesterolemia:
The range of doses is the same as for other types of hyperlipidemia.
The initial dose is selected individually depending on the severity of the disease. In most patients with homozygous hereditary hypercholesterolemia, the optimal effect is observed when the drug is used in a daily dose of 80 mg (once). Atoris is used as an adjunctive therapy to other methods of treatment (plasmapheresis) or as the main treatment if therapy with other methods is impossible.
Side effects

- The above side effects are the most frequent, there is less muscle weakness and increased serum transaminase levels.
In rare cases, taking the drug may lead to the development of allergic reactions (rash / itching), general weakness, dizziness, muscle spasms and changes in blood glucose (increase / decrease).
Overdose
There are no reliable data on the overdose of Atrisos at the moment.
If there are symptoms that somehow may be associated with an overdose, it is recommended to wash the stomach and take binder preparations at a high dosage. It is also necessary to remedy the symptoms.

In the case of a three-fold increase in the level of ACT and / or ALT, therapy is discontinued.
Care should be taken during therapy, when performing accurate or dangerous work, or when driving a car.
Drug Interactions
- In patients using furoid acid simultaneously with atorvastatin, cases of rhabdomyolysis were noted.
- Simultaneous use with rifampicin, efavirenz, preparations of St. John's wort perforated and other inducers of the isoenzyme CYP3A4 can lead to a decrease in the concentration of atorvastatin in the blood plasma.
- The use of atorvastatin concomitantly with antibiotics, antifungals, cyclosporine, nefazodone or HIV protease inhibitors may lead to an increase in the concentration of atorvastatin in the serum, which in turn increases the risk of developing renal failure, myopathy with rhabdomyolysis.
- Women taking oral contraceptives containing ethinylestradiol and norethindrone when taking atorvastatin should take into account that this combination affects the absorption of active substances in the contraceptive and increases their concentration in the plasma blood.
- Care should be taken when taking Atoris with ketoconazole, cimetidine, spironolactone and other medicinal means that reduce the concentration of endogenous steroid hormones, since the risk of reducing these hormones significantly increases.
Grapefruit juice in a volume of more than a day can increase the concentration of atorvastatin in blood plasma (it is recommended not to exceed the specified volume).
Reviews
We picked up some people's comments about the Atoris drug:
- Elena. Hello everybody! I used to take Atoris, help, but for me it's still an expensive drug. The cardiologist advised Novostat for 1 + 1. I already drink 3 months - cholesterol in biochemistry as well as when taking Atoris - at the level of,. Sense then overpay ..
- Michael. To lower cholesterol (after a heart attack), the doctor advised me to take atoris tablets (20 mg). After eight weeks of their daily intake, the cholesterol level in my blood approached the norm (dropping from 8 to, mmol / L). Over the next seven years I manage to keep cholesterol at the level of, mmol / l due to periodic (every three months I take 30 tablets of 10 mg) taking this drug.
- Maria. Tablets Atoris (reviews about them in the environment of Internet users are not always unambiguous) I've been drinking for four years: every day for 20 mg. All this time the cholesterol level is within the normal range.
- Vladimir. Now Atoris has become the most expensive atorvastatin, which is sold under the name, well, not counting Lipimar - this one does not buy at all. Atoris used to take it, but half a year ago the doctor advised me to go to Novostat. I wrote out the prescription and sent it to the pharmacy. There was a doubt about why this particular pharmacy, but when she said that there for the same 400 rubles that I was spending on Atoris will give me 2 packs of this medication agreed. And not in vain. Pugh Novostat, he is in capsules, somehow and easier to swallow and the stomach is easier to tolerate treatment. But the main thing really saving is palpable. Did biochemistry - everything is fine. The effect is, it is transferred perfectly and I save money.
In most cases, reviews about Atris, both doctors and patients are positive, with mention various most often weakly expressed side effects, without which, unfortunately, not a single one therapy. It should be noted that treatment with Atrisos should be prescribed only by a doctor and under his constant control. For a positive result of therapy, the patient must strictly adhere to the treatment regimen, diet, exercise and other recommendations of his doctor.
