pharmachologic effect

Agapurin belongs to the purine group and has a moderate spasmolytic (ie, relaxes smooth muscle) effect. Due to this, it improves blood flow even in vessels of the smallest caliber and promotes improvement of the rheological characteristics of the blood. The pentoxifylline caused by vasodilation leads to a reduction in the overall peripheral resistance of the vessels, an increase in the impact and minute volume of the heart. There is no increase in the heart rate.

The mechanism for preventing thrombosis is associated with irreversible inhibition of phosphodiesterase, increased concentration in platelets of cAMP and the accumulation of ATP in erythrocytes. Equally important is the mechanism of Agapurin's influence on the coronary arteries. Pentoxifylline exhibits a moderate antianginal effect by expanding not only the blood vessels of the heart, but also the lungs. The drug has the ability to increase the tone of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles (respiratory musculature).

In occlusive diseases of the lower extremities (obliterating endarteritis or atherosclerosis) the drug due to spasmolytic and antiaggregant action effectively eliminates nocturnal cramps, raises the distance of walking, stops pain in calf muscles at rest.

The drug is prescribed for the following pathological conditions:

  2. Chronic and acute impairment of cerebral circulation in the brain of ischemic etiology (cerebral atherosclerosis, among others).

  4. Trophic tissue disorders caused by violation of venous or arterial microcirculation (frostbites, gangrene, varicose ulcers).
  5. Inflammatory, diabetic and atherosclerotic processes accompanied by impaired peripheral circulation (obliterating endarteritis, diabetic angiopathy, "intermittent" lameness caused by atherosclerosis).
