Avamis is released as a suspension of white, homogeneous. Suspension is contained in bottles of dark orange glass, a volume of 30, 60 or 120 doses.
One dose of the drug contains the active substance - micronized fluticasone furoate - 27.5 μg + auxiliary substances (cellulose, polysorbate, edetate disodium, dextrose, water).
pharmachologic effect
The effect of Avamis is due to its composition. The main substance of the spray is fluticasone furoate. It is a glucocorticosteroid, an artificially created hormone that penetrates well and quickly through the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and affects certain receptors. As a result, mediators of inflammation, which are one of the links of an allergic reaction, are released in smaller amounts.
Thanks to this mechanism, after injecting the spray into the nasal passages, edema, itching, burning, reducing the amount of mucus to be released, eliminating nasal congestion, redness of the eyes and lacrimation are reduced. Since the active substance of Awamis remains bound to the receptors within 24 hours, there is no need to use it often, children can inject it no more often than 1 time per day.
Avamis is a topical preparation. Its active substance - fluticasone furoate - in an insignificant amount penetrates into the bloodstream and has no systemic effect. It is completely and completely eliminated from the body. Therefore, do not be afraid that the drug is hormonal. Its main action is anti-inflammatory.

Treatment of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, nasal symptoms of year-round allergic rhinitis in adults and adolescents (ages 12 and older):
- The recommended initial dose is 2 sprays (27.5 μg fluticasone furoate in one spray) to each nostril 1 time / day (110 μg / day).
- When adequate control of symptoms is achieved, reducing the dose to 1 spray into each nostril 1 time / day (55 μg / day) can be effective for maintenance treatment.
Treatment of nasal symptoms of seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis in children aged 2 to 11 years:
- The recommended initial dose is 27.5 μg (1 spray) in each nostril 1 time / day (55 μg / day).
- If there is no desired effect at a dose of 27.5 μg (1 sputtering), a dose increase up to 55 μg (2 sprays) per nostril 1 time / day (110 μg / day) is possible in each nostril 1 time / day. When an adequate control of symptoms is achieved, it is recommended to reduce the dose to 27.5 μg (1 spray) in each nostril 1 time / day (55 μg / day).
Children under 2 years of age:
- There is no evidence to recommend the use of fluticasone furoate intranasally as a treatment for seasonal and allergic allergic rhinitis in children under 2 years of age.
Proper preparation of the spray, before its first use, ensures the spraying of the required dose of the drug. For this, the following actions are performed:
- since this spray is a thick suspension that becomes more liquid when shaken, spray it is only after a preliminary shake (without removing the cap for 10 seconds);
- remove the cap by pulling it upwards;
- holding the bottle in a vertical position, point the tip away from yourself and forcefully press the button several times, after a small cloudlet comes out of the tip, the spray is ready for use.
After you prepare the spray for use, clean the nose and tilt the head forward, then insert the tip into one nostril, point it to the outer wall of the nose and spray it during inspiration. Before spraying the spray into the second nostril, exhale through the mouth.

Do not attempt to clean the sprayer opening with sharp objects.
Side effects
Taking the drug can lead to the development of negative side reactions from various organs and body systems, they include:
- Skin allergic reactions (pruritus, rash).
- The development of ulcerative lesions on the mucosa of the nasal passages.
- Allergic reactions of an immediate type (Quincke's edema, development of anaphylactic shock).
- The occurrence of nasal bleeding (mild or moderate severity). Most often, this side effect occurs with prolonged use of the drug (more than 6 weeks).
- Mental retardation in young children who have been inhaled for a long period with Avamisom. In this regard, if you need long-term therapy with this tool is recommended to regularly measure the growth of the child. In the case when the lagging begins to be recorded according to the indicated anthropometric index, the dose is either reduced to a minimally effective one, or the preparation is generally abolished.
Overdose
In a study of the bioavailability of the drug intranasally, doses were applied 24 times higher than the recommended dose for adults for more than 3 days, with no undesirable systemic reactions observed.
Drug Interactions
Fluticasone furoate is rapidly excreted by undergoing primary metabolism in the liver with the participation of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme of the cytochrome P450 system. In the study of the drug interaction of fluticasone furoate and the highly active inhibitor of the isoenzyme CYP3A4-ketoconazole, more cases of plasma concentration fluticasone furoate, the values of which were above threshold, in the group of patients receiving ketoconazole (6 of 20 patients), compared with placebo (1 of 20 patients). This small increase does not result in a statistically significant difference in the plasma cortisol content within 24 hours between the two groups.
On the basis of the theoretical data, no drug interaction of fluticasone furoate applied intranasally is assumed, according to instructions for use, with other drugs that are metabolized with the participation of cytochrome P450 isoenzymes. Therefore, no clinical studies have been conducted to study the interaction of fluticasone furoate and other drugs.
