Sermion

Sermion is a vasodilator that improves cerebral and peripheral circulation. Effective in metabolic, chronic and acute cerebral vascular insufficiency.

With regular administration of the drug (8-24 weeks), improvement in cognitive (mental) functions of the brain and a decrease in the manifestations of dementia were noted.

In the role of the active substance of the agent acts nicergoline (derivative of ergot alkaloid) - an analog of ergoline with a nicotinic acid site. This compound has both α - adrenoblocking action and spasmolytic activity, and also improves the metabolic processes and hemodynamics of the brain. In addition, the substance exhibits antiplatelet properties.

pharmachologic effect

The active substance of Sermion, nicergoline, has a pronounced alpha-1-adrenergic blocking effect, improving cerebral and peripheral blood circulation. The drug lowers the vascular resistance, increases arterial blood flow, as well as the intake of glucose and oxygen by brain tissues.

The use of Sermion helps to reduce platelet aggregation, improve hemodynamic and metabolic processes in the brain, and also increase the blood flow velocity in the lower and upper extremities.

Indications for use

The drug is effective in chronic and acute cerebral metabolic and vascular disorders that have arisen as a result of arterial hypertension, atherosclerosis, embolism or thrombosis of cerebral vessels.

According to the testimony, Sermion is prescribed for the treatment of the following ailments:

  1. Headaches caused by vasospasm.
  2. Functional and organic arteriopathy of the extremities.
  3. Raynaud's disease.
  4. Acute transient impairment of cerebral circulation.
  5. Syndromes caused by impaired peripheral blood flow.
  6. Vascular dementia.

In some cases, it is administered parenterally as an additional means to relieve the hypertensive crisis.

Contraindications

  • age under 18 years (for oral administration);
  • pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding (safety profile for this group of patients has not been studied, during pregnancy, parenteral administration of the solution is possible only under the direct supervision of a specialist and in the presence of strict indications);
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • isomaltase / sucrose deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption (for oral administration);
  • severe bradycardia;
  • bleeding in acute flow;
  • orthostatic hypotension;
  • acute myocardial infarction.

Sermion in all dosage forms is administered with caution in the presence of the following diseases / conditions (relative contraindications):

Intended use for pregnancy and lactation

Studies of the drug Sermion during pregnancy have not been conducted, so it should only be taken under the supervision of the doctor for strict indications for use.

At the time of taking this medicine, you should refrain from breastfeeding, as nicergoline and the products that are formed as a result of metabolism are excreted together with breast milk.

Dosage and route of administration

As indicated in the instructions for use, Sermion is administered orally 5-10 mg 3 times / day or 30 mg 2 times / day, at regular intervals, for a long time.

  • With chronic disorders of cerebral circulation, vascular cognitive impairment, post-stroke states Sermion appoint 10 mg 3 times / day. The therapeutic effect of the drug develops gradually, and the course of treatment should be at least 3 months.
  • In vascular dementia appoint 30 mg 2 times / day. In this case, the patient is advised to consult with the doctor every 6 months about the advisability of continuing therapy.
  • In acute disorders of cerebral circulation, ischemic stroke due to atherosclerosis, thrombosis and embolism of cerebral vessels, transient disorders of cerebral circulation (transient ischemic attacks, hypertensive cerebral crises) it is preferable to begin treatment with parenteral administration of nicergoline, then continue taking the drug inside.
  • In the peripheral circulation disorders, Sermion is prescribed 10 mg 3 times a day for a long time (up to several months).

In patients with impaired renal function (serum creatinine ≥2 mg / dl), Sermion is recommended for use in lower therapeutic doses.

Injection

Possible way of introducing Sermion: intramuscular, intravenous, intraarterial.

The doctor determines the scheme of application individually, depending on the nature of the disease. To start a course in some cases is preferable with an injection, after which for carrying out maintenance therapy the patient is transferred to Sermion's intake inside.

Depending on the mode of administration, Sermion is prescribed in the following doses:

  • intramuscularly: 2 times a day for 2-4 mg;
  • intravenously: infusion solution - 4-8 mg of Sermion in a 0.9% solution of sodium chloride or 5-10% solution of dextrose volume of 100 ml (in the form of a slow infusion); if necessary, this dose is administered several times a day;
  • intraarterially: solution - 4 mg in a 0.9% solution of sodium chloride with a volume of 10 ml; the time of administration is 2 minutes.

Sermion solution recommended to enter immediately after recovery.

In lower doses, the drug in all dosage forms is administered to patients with functional renal impairment (with serum creatinine ≥2 mg / dL).

Side effect

During the start of Sermion tablets, it is possible to develop negative pathological reactions from various organs and systems:

  1. Allergic reactions - the appearance of skin rashes.
  2. Nervous system - periodic dizziness, insomnia or drowsiness, confusion.
  3. Metabolism is an increase in the level of uric acid in the blood, which does not depend on the dosage and duration of the drug.
  4. The digestive system - nausea, periodic vomiting, dyspeptic phenomena with bloating (flatulence), diarrhea or constipation.
  5. The cardiovascular system is a marked decrease in the level of arterial pressure (arterial hypotension), the appearance of a sensation of fever in the face.

When there are signs of negative side reactions, the doctor decides to cancel the drug individually, which depends on their nature and severity.

Overdose

If there is a significant deviation from the recommended dosages, a significant decrease in blood pressure values is not excluded. Often, such a violation does not require special correction, normal values are restored independently.

special instructions

Before you start using the drug, read the special instructions:

  1. In therapeutic doses, Sermion, as a rule, does not affect BP, but in patients with hypertension it can cause a gradual decrease in blood pressure.
  2. The drug acts gradually, so it should be taken for a long time, while the doctor should periodically (at least every 6 months) evaluate the effect of treatment and the appropriateness of its continuation.

Despite the fact that Sermion helps to improve the concentration, the effect of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles and work with mechanisms has not been specifically studied. Given the nature of the underlying disease, patients should be cautious in potentially hazardous activities.

Interaction with other drugs

With the simultaneous use of Sermion can enhance the effect of antihypertensive drugs.

With the simultaneous use of nicergoline with acetylsalicylic acid, an increase in bleeding time is possible.

Nicergoline is metabolized under the action of the isoenzyme CYP2D6, so it is impossible to exclude the possibility of Sirmione's interaction with drugs that are metabolized with the participation of this enzyme.

Reviews

We offer you to read reviews of people who used the drug Sermion:

  1. Margarita. Mom drank as prescribed by the doctor sermion from the headache of the month four, and before that, injections of nicergoline, i.e. the same composition. Unfortunately, the treatment did not help.
