- active substance: josamycin - 500 mg,
- auxiliary substances: microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate 80, silicon colloidal oxide, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, Macrogol 6000, talc, titanium dioxide, aluminum hydroxide, methacrylic acid copolymer and its esters.
Pharmacological effect
The bactericidal effect of the active substance of the preparation is due to the fact that josamycin is able to bind to a large subunit of the ribosomal membrane (50S), does not allow transport RNA to be fixed, and also blocks the translocation of A-center peptides (a kind of mutation that accompanies chromosome rearrangement, affecting the properties of the cell) and suppresses intracellular production of proteins from amino acids.
The range of action of josamycin, which is part of Vilprrafen, is quite wide.
The substance has activity against Gram-positive aerobic microorganisms, including:
- Isolated by the body in inflammatory processes of peptococci;
- Peptostreptococci, which provoke the development of mixed infections;
- Staphylococci;
- The causative agent of anthrax is the anthrax bacilli;
- Bacteria of the genus Corynebacterium, which are the causative agents of diphtheria;
- Clostridium of perfringence - causative agents of gas gangrene and human toxicogenesis;
- Streptococcus.
Wilprafen is also active against gram-negative microorganisms, including:
- Hemophilus, which is the cause of hemophilic infections, including purulent meningitis, acute pneumonia, pericarditis, septicemia, etc .;
- Neisseria, which are the causative agents of diseases such as gonorrhea and meningitis;
- Some varieties of shigella provoking the development of dysentery;
- Bacteroid fragilis, which are the causative agents of purulent-infectious diseases, developing after the traumas, surgical interventions, with immunodeficiency, etc .;
Also, josamycin has activity against various intracellular parasites: chlamydia, legionella, mycoplasmas, ureaplasmas.

Drug Interactions
- Vilprafen inhibits the elimination of xanthines, which can trigger the development of intoxication.
- It is advisable to avoid simultaneous application of Vilprafen with other antibiotics. This can lead to a decrease in their effectiveness.
- The simultaneous use of an antibiotic with cyclosporine can lead to an increase in the concentration of the latter, so you should monitor its level throughout the treatment.
- Taking Vilprrafen may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives, so to avoid unwanted pregnancy is recommended to additionally use non-hormonal contraceptives.
- The complex application of Vilprafen with antihistamines including astemizole and terfenadine increases the concentration of the latter, which can lead to the development of serious cardiac arrhythmias that threaten life.
Reviews
We picked up some feedback from people about the preparation of Wilprafen:
- Masha. Passed inspection during pregnancy, passed the tests and it turned out that I have ureaplasmosis. The doctor has written out to me "Vilprafen" + preparations from a dysbacteriosis. I was very worried if they were possible during pregnancy, but she convinced me that they are fairly sparing, but at the same time effective. I completed the full course, no side effects were observed. But the most important thing that helped! I took these pills myself for a note, since I read that they are quite a wide range of activities and at an affordable price.
- Artem. I used this antibiotic for the first time this year, when I fell ill. It hurt greatly in the throat and the rhinitis troubled me. My mother recommended the medicine. She prescribed this medicine in the year when she had a severe sore throat, more than two months she treated her. What can I say about the medicine? Yes I do not know, it helped me, or another set of medicines that I used. But I cured my illness in ten days, as I began to take this antibiotic. No allergies or disorders in the intestines, I did not have rashes. The device is transferred well. Not happy with the price of the medicine, in our city is about four hundred rubles!
According to feedback, Wilprafen is an effective drug, but the risk of developing adverse reactions during treatment is high. Patients diagnosed with chlamydia and ureaplasmosis report that within a few days after the start of the drug, the symptoms of the disease disappear completely. There are reports of such side effects of Wilprafen, as a violation of the gastrointestinal tract and allergic rashes, which are relatively common.
