Maxitrol drops for eyes - an ophthalmic combined drug.

It includes 2 antibiotics and a glucocorticosteroid. Maxitrol has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiallergic effect.

Active substances in 1 ml of drops:

  • Dexamethasone - 1 mg;
  • Polymyxin B sulfate - 6000 ED;

Additional components: sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride solution, equivalent to benzalkonium chloride, polysorbate 20, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, purified water, hydrochloric acid, concentrated and / or sodium hydroxide (before adjusting the pH).

Pharmacological effect

The main active substances Maxytrol eye drops are antibiotics (neomycin, polymyxin B) and corticosteroid (dexamethasone). Such a combination provides a wide range of effects of the drug, as follows:

  • Polymyxin B (3500 EM), a cyclic polypeptide actively destroys streptococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, klebsiella, salmonella, shigella, hemophilic rod (neomycin has a weak effect on them).
  • Neomycin (6000 EM), 4th generation aminoglycoside, provides bactericidal action on a wide range of bacteria: pneumococci, staphylococci, intestinal and dysentery bacillus, proteins, etc.
  • Dexamethasone (1 mg), glucocorticosteroid penetrates into the cells of the eye structures, where it reduces the permeability of cell membranes, blocks the release of histamines, strengthens the vessels of small capillaries.

The main active ingredients are supplemented with hypromellose, saline, polysorbate, distilled water, as well as antiseptic benzalkonium chloride.

When the drug is used, the bacterial infection is actively destroyed, the cornea and mucosal edema are quickly eliminated, the lacrimation is normalized. The drug well removes inflammation, reddening of the sclera and itching caused by allergic reactions and infection. Relief comes almost immediately after instillation, drops do not cause burning in the eye.

However, antibiotics do not affect intracellular infections (viruses), including they are powerless against herpes simplex virus, the drug against mycosis (fungal) lesions, purulent inflammations is inactive.

Indications for use

As mentioned above, Maxitrol is used to relieve inflammation of the eyes. Shown in the following cases:

  1. Keratitis;
  2. Iridocyclitis;
  3. Bacterial inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis);
  4. Infection of the eye mucosa (conjunctivitis);

Contraindications

Drops have contraindications to use:

Dosage and route of administration

Side effects
