Pharmacological effect

The mucolytic effect of the drug is provided by the active substance acetylcysteine, which is a derivative of cysteine (amino acid). The molecule of acetylcysteine has sulfhydryl groups in its structure, which contributes to the disruption of the disulfide bonds of mucopolysaccharides in the sputum that provide the viscosity of the secretion. As a result, sputum is softened and easier to separate from the walls of the bronchi.

The drug has a direct effect on the density and rheological properties of sputum, while retaining proper activity even with purulent impurities in the bronchial secretion. In the preventive use of acetylcysteine, patients with cystic fibrosis and chronic bronchitis report a decrease in the number and a decrease in the severity of exacerbations.

Another effect of acetylcysteine is an antioxidant pneumoprotective effect, which is realized by binding and neutralizing chemical radicals with sulfhydryl groups. The drug accelerates the synthesis of glutathione, a factor of intracellular defense against a number of cytotoxic substances and oxidative toxins of internal and external origin, which allows the use of ATSs in case of an overdose of paracetamol.

special instructions

  1. Mucolytic effects of ATSs are enhanced by additional fluid intake.
  2. Patients with obstructive bronchitis and bronchial asthma require regular monitoring of bronchial patency in the period of treatment with ATSTS.
  3. The drug is incompatible with proteolytic enzymes and antibiotics (with cephalosporins, tetracycline, penicillins, erythromycin and amphotericin B).
  4. You should not combine the drug with antitussive drugs, since suppressing the cough reflex caused by the latter can lead to dangerous stagnation of mucus.

Drug Interactions

Tetracycline and its derivatives (except doxycycline) can not be used together with ATSTS in pediatrics.

During in vitro experimental studies, no cases of inactivation of other types of antibacterial drugs were detected. Nevertheless, it is recommended to observe the interval between admission of ATSTS and antibiotics in 2 hours (not less). In vitro, the incompatibility of acetylcysteine with semisynthetic penicillins, antibiotics of aminoglycoside and cephalosporin series has been proved. Such studies were not conducted with erythromycin, amoxicillin and cefuroxime.

Simultaneous reception of antitussive agents can lead to stagnation of the secretion of the airways.

Use with nitroglycerin can enhance the vasodilator action of the latter.

Reviews

We picked up some feedback from people about the preparation of ATSTS:

  1. Anastasia. At the beginning of the treatment of a wet, non-coughing girlfriend, I was advised to try ATSTS powder. When I went to the pharmacy, I was embarrassed at first because of the price of the medicine. It cost somewhere around 130 rubles, which against the background of analogs is very strange and inexpensive. Decided yet to try and was not mistaken, the cold passed for 3 days, and breathing normalized.
  2. George. A negative, protracted cough, from which no pills are saved, gathering of herbs and sprays is a very unpleasant thing. It was like this: I coughed so much that my pectoral muscles ached. There was a feeling that, the sputum was densely settled in the lungs, and nothing could be withdrawn from there. My girlfriend helped me, and when she saw my torment, I took out the package of ATSTS from the bag. I ordered one tablet three times a day. Already on the second day after the beginning of the reception, I felt relief: the walls no longer shuddered from the attacks of a rending cough. The sputum began to recede, and a pleasant sensation of normal breathing appeared in the lungs.
  3. Anton. I have long suffered from coughing. To say that he was dry, I can not, but the sputum still did not come out. I decided to go to the hospital and the doctor advised me to try ACTS long in effervescent tablets. I drank the course, as it was said to the instructions to the medicine - 5 days. The cough did not go away at all, but it became much easier to breathe, and the sputum was already coming out of the bronchi.
  4. Irina. There was obstructive bronchitis. I was treated for 18 days. The pressure dropped, dyspnoea started, cough became dry, intestinal bleeding started during defecation. Doctors are not competent, prescribe antibiotics and acetas, the instructions say that they are not compatible. Peeled ceftriaxone. As always - the rescue of drowning people is the work of the drowning themselves. Inhalations help perfectly. Do not be ill! Be healthy!
