Purulent angina in adults - symptoms and treatment, photo

Purulent sore throatAngina is quite justifiably one of the most common diseases that affect adults.The causative agents of this infectious disease are staphylococci, streptococci, pneumococci and adenoviruses, the main "blow" which always falls on the tonsils.

Depending on the specific tissue lesions, angina is subdivided into catarrhal, necrotic, purulent, herpetic.

Each of these species has similar symptoms, but it also differs in some features, including treatment methods. Peaks of angina usually occur in the fall and spring - seasons, characterized by high humidity.

Classification

By classification, there is no such thing as purulent angina. Tonsillitis (angina) according to the classification of Soldatenka I. B. divided into:

  1. Acute tonsillitis (here include catarrhal, lacunar, follicular, ulcerative-necrotic angina).
  2. Chronic tonsillitis (distinguish between two forms, the combined and decompensated form of chronic tonsillitis).

Purulent angina primarily implies an acute tonsillitis (lacunar or follicular form). This is due to the fact that when examining the tonsils, on their surface you can see purulent films, as well as liquid pus in the lacunae of the tonsils.

What is the difference between purulent sore throats from each other?

There are 3 forms of this disease:

  1. Follicular. The easiest form of purulent sore throat, when pus accumulations are visible through the epithelium in the form of small dots. Usually, the follicular sore throat rarely runs without temperature.
  2. Lacunar. In this case, the lacuna is filled with pus, therefore, on the tonsils, an original pattern is formed of light strips, not dots.
  3. Phlegmonous. It is one of the most severe forms of the disease, since purulent melting of the amygdala occurs here, which requires in-patient treatment.

How to treat purulent sore throat in an adult will directly depend on the symptoms and the form of the ailment.

Causes

Purulent angina in the vast majority of cases is an infectious disease caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus. This pathogen is found in about 60-80% of cases of purulent angina. Most specialists still tend to attribute angina to streptococcal infectious diseases. However, the possibility of purulent angina of staphylococcal and pneumococcal origin is not ruled out. There are also descriptions of angina leafereletic etiology.

Source of infection - patients with sore throat or healthy people who carry streptococci. Is purulent sore throat? Of course, yes, if you do not adhere to the rules of hygiene and do not wear a protective dressing when you contact the sick person.

There are always microbes in special indentations of palatine tonsils (lacunae). With normal immunity, they do not cause disease. butthere are a number of factors triggering the launch of an infectious processa:

  1. Subcooling the body, sudden temperature changes, cold drink and food.
  2. Mechanical damage to palatine tonsils with further infection.
  3. Avitaminosis, the presence of concomitant inflammatory diseases of nearby structures.
  4. Transfer of streptococcal infection through the body.
  5. Immunodeficiency, diseases that cause a decrease in immunity.
  6. Ingestion into the mouth of a fungal or bacterial infection.

In these cases, the protective forces of the entire body are reduced and, first of all, it occurs in the tonsils. When the process is started, the pathogenic microflora penetrates deep into the tonsils, causing their acute inflammation - angina. How to treat this ailment and whether antibiotics are needed for this, we will consider just below.

Symptoms of purulent sore throat

In the case of purulent angina, symptoms in adults can have varying degrees of severity, depending on the form and neglect of the infection process. Also, angina is able to leak and without a significant rise in temperature. In this case, the main and determining signs are pain in the throat, changes in the appearance of the tonsils: redness, swelling of the mucosa, pustules and plaque on the tonsils.

However, most often purulent angina in adults is characterized by the following symptoms (see Fig. a photo):

  • acute onset of the disease: increased temperature to 40 C and even higher;
  • fever;
  • pronounced intoxication (headache, lack of appetite, strong weakness);
  • acute pain in the throat, most strongly felt when swallowing food and saliva;
  • morbidity and inflammation of the submaxillary lymph nodes;
  • swelling and redness of palatine tonsils, posterior pharyngeal wall and small tongue;
  • swelling of the neck;
  • rashes on the skin;
  • abdominal pain;
  • the presence of purulent foci, raids on the tonsils, which are easily removed with a medical spatula, without injuring the mucous membrane.

The incubation periodpurulent sore throat can be from 2 to 5 days. Symptoms of the disease appear quickly enough, and one of the first signs, as a rule, is a chill, followed by a strong fever. A characteristic feature is that the tenderness in the throat gradually increases, starting bother from a simple feeling of discomfort to severe pain, whether or not associated with swallowing.

Treatment of the purulent form of the disease lends itself to a rule common to all ailments: the earlier it begins, the sooner the recovery will come and the less the complication will be. That is why, in order to quickly cure purulent sore throat, measures must be taken at the appearance of its first signs.
