Diagnosis of cholecystitis

Laboratory diagnostic methods are used to assess blood levels, as well as determine the state of the liver and pancreas. For this, clinical and biochemical blood tests, general urine analysis and stool analysis are performed.

In some cases it is possible to carry out bacteriological and biochemical studies of bile. To do this, use duodenal sounding.

Remember:cholecystitis is most often affected by people with cholelithiasis or those who are obese.

Instrumental methods consist in carrying out:

  • Ultrasound (reveals an increase in the size of the gallbladder, wrinkling of the organ, compaction of the walls of the bladder, etc.);
  • cholecystography (reveals pathologies in the upper parts of the digestive tract);
  • esophagogastroduodenoscopy (determines the presence of stones in the gallbladder).
  • laparoscopic diagnosis (used to identify an objective picture of the patient's condition).

As a gastroenterologist, cholecystitis is treated

After the gastroenterologist has decided on the diagnosis, he prescribes treatment. For example, classical therapy for cholecystitis in the acute stage implies urgent hospitalization. At an easy stage of illness the patient is hospitalized for 7 days.

In case of inflammation in the gallbladder, the doctor prescribes anti-inflammatory drugs, including antibiotics.

After the inflammation is removed, the doctor prescribes cholagogue medicines aimed at accelerating the emptying of the body and improving the overall condition of the patient. Similar preparations at a cholecystitis also are capable to lower inflammatory processes still at early stages of illness.

To eliminate the infection of bile, the doctor prescribes antibacterial drugs. Such treatment should last no more than 14 days.

If, during a series of studies in the gallbladder, with a pronounced inflammation, stones are found, the doctor prescribes surgery. Depending on the severity of the disease and the size of the stones, the purpose of surgical intervention can be the removal of deposits or the elimination of the gallbladder. Such a decision the doctor takes only if conservative treatment in this case is powerless.

Important:the treatment of cholecystitis should be followed by a diet. Food should be chemically and mechanically sparing. Only vegetarian soups should be present in the patient menu. It is not recommended to eat fatty, fried, smoked and spicy food. The food should not be too cold and not too hot. In the diet should be: boiled vegetables, compotes, soft drinks, dairy products, yesterday's white and black bread, etc.
