What are bisphosphonates

Bisphosphonates can reduce the risk of the most dangerous complications of osteoporosis - multiple fractures.

At a young age, human bones are constantly updated, maintaining balance - osteoblasts form bones, and osteoclasts destroy them. The mechanism of action of bisphosphonates consists in the destruction of destructive cells (osteoclasts), whose activity increases with age. Bisphosphonates block the formation of new osteoclasts, create a barrier between them and osteoblasts.

However, despite the positive properties, the medicine revealed undesirable phenomena that accompany the long-term use of these medications. However, the incidence of complications is very low and the benefit from them far outweighs the harm.

The main active ingredient is alendronate sodium. The drug, regulating phosphoric-calcium metabolism, increases bone tissue, saturating it with minerals. As a result, bone tissue of normal structure is formed. The acceptable dose is 1 tablet (70 mg) per week, in total there are 4 tablets in the package. Take it in the morning, half an hour or 2 hours before a meal or any liquid.

Indications for the use of the drug - osteoporosis in men and women in the postmenopausal period.

Contraindications

• with chronic renal failure;
• during pregnancy, during breast-feeding;

Zometas

Inhibits (suppresses) the absorption processes in the bones, is shown in hypercalcemia, pathological bone fractures, to prevent complications after radiotherapy. Zolendronic acid, which is part of the ampoule, does not adversely affect the formation of bones. In parallel, vitamins of calcium and vitamin D are also prescribed.

There was no clinical interaction of the drug with other groups of drugs - analgesics, antibiotics.
